Riding in the Czech countryside: what the forest law says

A summary of the official sources listed below, not legal advice. Rules change – always check the current version.

Forest roads and marked routes

Section 20(1)(j) of the Czech Forest Act prohibits moving through forests off forest roads and marked routes other than on foot. On horseback, stay on forest roads and marked routes. The forest owner may grant an exception (section 20(4)).[1]

The Czech Police (2021) state that riding off roads and marked routes is an offence that can be fined up to CZK 5,000.[2]

Riding with a local provider

If you don't know the area, riding with a local stable or equestrian-tourism provider is simplest. Confirm routes, ride length, price and required experience directly with them – we do not guarantee these details in the directory.
